The House

A quiet study in Kanalia.

On the quiet, sought-after coastline of Kanalia, Villa Poseidon sits alone above the water on a four-thousand-square-metre plot, with three hundred and fifty square metres of living space and something almost impossible to find on Mykonos: its own private access to the sea. The house was rebuilt from the ground up in 2023, and the architecture does one thing beautifully — it dissolves the line between inside and outside. Long open volumes frame the Aegean; the sunset arrives uninterrupted every evening. Outdoors, a fully equipped summer kitchen with BBQ, bar and a generous island opens onto a solid timber table for twelve. The heated infinity pool runs straight towards the horizon, and at the very edge of the rock a lounge with a fire pit becomes the natural place to end the day, with nothing but open water in front of you. The residence is arranged in separate volumes for privacy. The main house holds a designer kitchen and wide, calm living spaces, with a master suite and private bathroom on the upper floor. A second, independent building contains two further master en-suites, sharing a heated jacuzzi and their own outdoor dining terrace. Elsewhere there is a TV room, a spacious guest en-suite, a yoga studio with kitchenette, a steam room and a full laundry. Underfloor heating throughout makes the house as comfortable in April as in August, and four covered parking spaces sit discreetly to one side. Mykonos needs little introduction — the most cosmopolitan of the Cyclades, famous for its whitewashed lanes, its beaches, its restaurants and its nightlife, yet still holding an older, quieter history in its chapels and archaeological sites. The island is reached by air through Mykonos National Airport, or by ferry from Rafina and Piraeus, with several daily crossings through the summer. From the villa, you are close enough for dinner in Chora and far enough to hear only the sea.
